A Second Look at First Friday

First Friday Lancaster Holidays holidayshopping Must-haves Shop local Shop local and shop small! Shop small Vintage

Happy Sweet Sweet Saturday Sisters! Since the season of giving is upon us, we decided to check out some of the local shops that stayed open late for first Friday and perhaps help out with your holiday shopping. First stop was an adorable and actually quite large shop called Details. As soon as we walked in we felt like we were home. With wonderful glassware and beautiful baubles all around us, the whole place just felt warm and cozy. This is a great stop if you are newly engaged and planning a wedding or if you just need a cool housewarming or hostess gift. This is another excellent location if you are looking for a cool gift for someone else or yourself. They have beautiful hats, gloves and scarves as well as handbags. They also have an extensive collection of soaps for both men and women. For that hipster in your life there's beard oil. They also have a wonderful collection of gifts that will make the recipient laugh out loud. We had a great time going through the collection of these. They actual made us giggle quite a bit. In fact, I believe I've found my white elephant gift for Christmas. Family you've been warned. Third on the list was Sonia Rose. The items in here were pricey but beautiful. In fact this wall of purses that you see in the picture below are all handmade by the owner out of decorator fabric found at other local shops. The details were and I'm sure well worth the extra money. Everything in the boutique is one of a kind. Shoppers can also find jewelry, women's pajamas, hats and one of our must-haves - Shapewear!  After this we headed further up Queen street to check out MadCap & Co. This place is fun and has a lot of quirky stuff. There seemed to be a mix of pop culture and vintage throughout. There were also kids items available for purchase.

After this we found The Scarlet Willow. Talk about fun! Even if you aren't that into Vintage, this store will make you a convert. We spent about 45 minutes in here alone just looking through all of the cool clothes, hats and accessories. This place made me want to go home and turn on Mad Men. If you ever want a cool "new" look for a party or even just a retro Halloween costume, you're guaranteed to find it here.

Last but not least we wandered through Building Character. If you haven't been here, we highly recommend you check it out. There are 50+ shops featuring vintage clothing, handmade jewelry and metalcraft, antiques and collectibles, handmade greeting cards and ornaments....the list goes on and on. Just trust us. Go and check it out.

So that does it. Those were our takeaways from our First Friday foray. We hope this helps to knock a few things off of that impending holiday list. And don't forget about Poor Little Rich Girl's styling services! These make great, unique gifts as well and you'd get the added bonus (as with all of the shops above) of keeping your money local to Lancaster, PA.
